The last sentence pronounced on the stage of the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, Saturday, Feb. 23, while the 38th ceremony of the Caesars coming to an end, was “We can make European products without relocating.” Delivered by Margaret Menegoz, producer of Love, Michael Haneke, great victor of the evening, it was indicative of the mood of the evening a bit dull, crossing concerns (especially material), whose humor – f t he dr it or not -? was first grin ant?.
The winners has distinguished the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2012. Love re? U the Caesars of the film, the director and original screenplay for Michael Haneke, the actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, the actress Emmanuelle Riva, already awarded a Bafta and British named the Oscar. But the Austrian director was not there to receive his award (he was in Madrid for the first of his staging of Cosi fan tutte), just as Jean-Louis Trintignant was said – called the phone by his son Vincent – “confused, a little excited.”
Rust and bone, Jacques Audiard (adaptation, music, men hope for Schoenaerts, editing), Farewell My Queen, Beno? T Jacquot (costumes, photo, scenery) and the Name of Alexander the Patelli??re and Matthieu Delaporte (second r? for the Guillaume de Tonquedec and Valerie Benguigui) shared the rest of the awards.
Argo, directed by and starring Ben Affleck re? U Cesar foreign film, Invisible, Sebastien Lifshitz, and the documentary Ernest and Celestine, Benjamin Renner, Vincent Patar and St??phane Aubier, the animated film.
Camille Rewinds, comedy Lvovsky yet thirteen times named, Holy Motors, Leos Carax film poem or a few hours Spring Briz?? (which was probably a mistake to be too close, by its subject, the film Haneke) were completely ignored.
Facing the Theatre du Chatelet before the ceremony, dozens of film technicians braved the cold to demand the extension of the collective agreement, as some unions refuse producers. Activists chanted: “One solution, the extension of the Convention” to c tees indifferent bystanders who tried to glimpse the guests, carefully screened by a security service each year more impressive?.
Inside, the I? Be ceremonial, Antoine de Caunes, multiplied references to recent tribulations of the great family film “which is a normal family,” he remarked, as dysfunctional. The presenter and the chairman of the evening, Jamel Debbouze, accumulated tax allusions, references to exile Goodwill Gerard Depardieu (with a preference for the Russian stage, marked by the performance of La Marseillaise by ch? ur inspired by the Red Army).
Between these allusions and trade union demonstration, it was hard to ignore the coming year looks delicate for French cinema? Ais. The same morning, the French weekly Le Film? Ais had published his record of profitability. During the year, no French movie? Ais has depreciated investments by its own theatrical career.
From time to time, the ceremony has risen above these concerns down-to-earth. Laughing first, with a small film imagined that the realization of the next episode of Star Wars had been entrusted to Michael Haneke. By moving then face the joy of Emmanuelle Riva who cited Kleist: “Friend, do not neglect to live as they flee the years,” echoing his partner Jean-Louis Trintignant, who had borrowed his “And if we tried to be happy, if only to set an example “to Pr??vert at the fence of the Cannes Film Festival.
